"The Walk of Remembrance"
I was so fortunate to get to worship with a congregation that believes in progression on Easter Sunday. This congregation fully believes in our responsibility set forth by Christ in Matthew 28,"...go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
I decided to give this the title "The Walk of Remembrance" because honestly...thats what we took. Things were done a little bit different for this particular Easter sunrise service, in that we weren’t served the Lord’s Supper. Typically men of the congregation bring this around to each member, however, at this service it was placed in the front of the building on the table and we made a "walk of remembrance" up to the front to partake of this.
Now, as unorthodoxed as this may seem, it was quite serene. We all softly sang a hymn as a congregation while waiting on our turn. Typically we take and break the bread and then each have individual cups with the juice in it, however, this was different. It was prebaked bread and there were 2 gobblets at the front where we dipped our bread into the juice. All this was done as the projector screen was slowly raised to display the rays of sunlight beaming through one of the most beautiful stain-glass windows I have ever seen. The walk back to our seats was very uplifting. There was a sense of calm there, a feeling of completeness that isn’t often times felt. I’m not sure if any one thing contributed to this or not, but it was very awe-inspiring to say the least.
I think to many times we get caught up in "settling" like mentioned in part one. We become obvlivious to the idea of change, to thinking "outta the box". Was this format a bit unorthadoxed? Yes, considering the normal way, but does that make it wrong? I don’t think so...just like Jesus told his diciples to put their nets out again in deeper water than they usually did. It was simply an alternate way of partaking of this and really allowed your minds to drift back to that time.
So, like part one, lets try and keep out minds focused on the future and not settle just because. We have unlimited means to spread God’s word and just because things seem out of the ordinary based on man’s "tradition" doesn’t make them wrong, just simply another way of doing it...just like Jesus said.
